The new community allotment site in Abbeyview Dunfermline was opened on Saturday 17 July by Dunfermline Athletic Director of Football and keen gardener, Jim Leishman.

Supporters, including Jim Tolson MSP and Councillor Mike Rumney, gathered to celebrate the opening.

Commenting Jim Leishman said:  “Gardening can give so much to people in terms of health, social and environmental benefit. Well done to the local community in creating these allotments”.

The allotment site is run by the Abbeyview Allotment group, part of the Abbeyview Forum.

Commenting on the initiative, Chairperson of the Forum, Christine Coates said:  "We would like to thank everyone involved in supporting the allotment project, in particular, our funders, Fife Council and the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, the Fife based works team from British Conservation Trust of Volunteers (BTCV) who have down a splendid job, and the support from a variety of Fife Council departments including the Fife Community Food Project, Parks and Countryside; and Community Learning & Development."
